BROADWOODKELLY NEWS AND EVENTS.
May 2025
PIZZA EVENING.
The Estaugh, Sterritt and Tettenborn team once again hosted a fantastic Pizza Evening on 12th April. They supplied delicious homemade pizzas with dough balls, either take-away take away or eat in, with everyone bringing their own refreshments or using the Village Hall Bar.
The Evening once again was a great success and raised funds for the Village Hall.
SOUP AND PUD LUNCHES.
The popular Soup and Pud lunches, put on by several ladies in the village drew to a close in April for the season, with another well attended group of diners. The Ladies will be starting again in September, and details will be advertised near the time.
They are kindly donating their profits to two charities. Devon Air Ambulance and a local hedgehog rescue.
THE BIG BREAKFAST
The Three Big Breakfasts put on by The Buckerfields and Keys proved a hugely popular way to start a Weekend. A delicious Full Cooked breakfast was served, along with toast, marmalade and fruit juice.
They raised an impressive sum for the Village Hall, and will doubtless be doing more in the future.
ART EXHIBITION.
The Exhibition held by the Local Art Group was another success for the community, with a Private Viewing on the Friday, followed by Free entry over the weekend, with refreshments kindly supplied by the Village Hall Committee.
Several paintings and cards found new homes, much to the delight of the amateur artists, and the refreshments raised a healthy sum for the Village Hall. A success all round.
VE CELEBRATIONS.
What a fantastic sunny weekend we had for the VE Day celebrations. The Village Hall ‘metamorphosed’ into Broadwoodkelly Officers Mess, where a VE Murder Mystery unfolded during the course of the evening while the guests enjoyed (hopefully) an authentic wartime meal, using food that was available at the time. The Wing Commander gave a moving speech at the beginning to all the men who had fought so bravely during the war, before moving on to murder two villagers himself! As ever The All Hallows Players excelled themselves. The evening was wound up with a fun quiz relating to music and events of the era.
One team successfully guessed the culprit and motive, while another table won the quiz.
The following day a delicious Cream Tea was served in the village hall for everyone, with local memorabilia on display, and a raffle. The weekend raised a magnificent £500 plus for the village hall and church. A Huge Thank You to everyone who put so much time and effort into such a great weekend.
PANTOMIME TIME AGAIN!
This year we have been very lucky to have a published author write a Pantomime for us of Robin Hood and his Merry Men especially for Broadwoodkelly, containing many a local twist. Although this might sound really premature The All Hallows Players would like to gauge the interest of anyone who would like to join in, either on the stage or be involved in all the backstage work. If you think you might be interested to find out more, no pressure honestly, then please come along to an Open Meeting at 7.00pm on Tuesday, 3rd June in the Village Hall.
BROADWOODKELLY LENDING LIBRARY.
The village hall library is proving very popular, we have had lots of pre-read books donated, along with grant funded ones. We have also been lucky to have received an additional small grant for more books, so do go along to see what new titles are in the library.
There are books there to suit everyone.
This collection of library books are kept in the Village Hall, unfortunately the hall has to kept locked for insurance purposes, but either visit during the Friday coffee morning at 11.00,
or email info.bwkvillagehall@gmail.com if you would like to have a browse at a pre-arranged time.
Please visit our website www.broadwoodkelly.com for all sorts of information.
CHURCHYARD.
The wonderful voluntary team are keeping the churchyard and ‘tennis court’ looking lovely, while sensitively managing the wildflowers. We are so lucky to have so much thriving there.
Thank you to you all.
FACEBOOK.
This is proving to be a great success, and a great way of keeping up with what is happening in the village, with more and more people following our page.
A huge thank you to Sarah Wall, who has set it up and is managing it for us all.
